Type System · Style Guide
A geometric container typeface where every glyph is a window into color, pattern, and illustration.

01
Luminara is an ultra-heavy, capitals-only display typeface rooted in the 1972 Novum Gebrauchsgraphik tradition. Every glyph is reduced to its most primitive geometric shape — square, circle, triangle, stadium — and then hollowed out to become a container.
The black mass defines the letter. The internal graphic defines its soul. Where traditional type relies on white space to create legibility, Luminara relies on vivid pattern, illustration, and color locked inside razor-sharp silhouettes.
02
Every letterform maps to a primitive shape. Stroke weight occupies 80–90% of the bounding box — these are not letters with strokes, they are shapes with windows.

High-saturation, 1970s "Pop" primaries. These five colors form the mandatory graphic vocabulary inside every Luminara glyph. No pastels, no neutrals inside the letterform.

The graphic content inside each glyph follows one of four sanctioned motifs. Assign motifs per word or per row — never mix motifs within a single letterform.
Motif A
Concentric Rainbow
Arcs of alternating palette colors that follow the inner curve of the letter. The arcs radiate outward from the glyph's center of gravity.
Motif B
Scale / Wave Pattern
Overlapping semi-circles in the Seigaiha tradition, rendered in vibrant pop colors. Rows alternate direction for optical rhythm.
Motif D
Celestial
Flat five-pointed stars and stylized bubble clouds with thick black outlines, floating on a solid-color field from the palette.
Motif C
Character Illustration
A "rubber-hose" or 70s cartoon character — elephant, devil, candle, or creature — peeking out from the bottom of the glyph. Thick black outlines, flat palette fills.
05
Luminara glyphs function as clipping masks. The outer silhouette is razor-sharp — no serifs, no spurs, no terminals. Internal counter-spaces are maximized to provide the largest possible window for illustration.
06
Arrangement is as important as the letters themselves. Luminara is designed to tile into dense, poster-like compositions.
Extremely tight. The top of Row 2 should nearly touch the bottom of Row 1, creating a dense vertical rhythm.
Uniform and wide. Each letter breathes as an independent object — equal spacing between all glyph pairs.
Justified or centered grid. Letters must align vertically across rows to produce a "wallpaper" tiling effect.

| Format | OTF-SVG OpenType-SVG Color Font (primary). Bakes textures and motifs directly into glyph data. |
| Fallback | OTF Standard solid-black version for use with manual clipping masks in design software. |
| Case Support | Capitals only. All characters are uppercase "Titling" height. No lowercase, no small caps. |
| Weight | Black Single weight — Ultra-Heavy / Black. Stroke occupies 80–90% of bounding box. |
| Stroke Width | No modulation. Uniform geometric strokes throughout. |
| Masking Behavior | Glyphs function as clipping masks. External edges are crisp vector paths suitable for SVG <clipPath> or CSS clip-path. |
| Recommended Use | Display / Headline / Poster. Minimum size 48pt. Not suitable for body text. |
